If you have bad credit you may be unable to get a loan or may get loans with extremely high interest rates. Once your credit goes downhill it can be a difficult climb back up again. It's always much quicker to lower your credit than it is for
credit repair. There are some things you can do to help fix your poor credit. While nothing will give you instant results you can get back on the right path. With time, patience and some diligence on your part you can improve your credit score.
The first thing to do when you want to start credit repair is to order your credit reports. These are available through the three main credit reporting agencies. It is important to note that you need to order all three reports since some of them may differ. Sometimes the first indication that you have
bad credit is when you apply for a loan or home mortgage and get turned down. When this happens don't despair. Review your credit reports to see what important information is contained.
Look first for any blaring problems. Sometimes there can be errors on your credit report or you even may find identity theft. If there is something on your report that is incorrect you can take credit repair action by filing a report. The agency will then review the report and determine whether it was made in error. If it was an error you can get it removed from your report, which will immediately raise your credit score slightly.
Check to see what bills have been reported as late payment. Credit cards, loans and even utility payments that are late may be reported. You will be able to see the last year of payment reporting. If the report shows a missing payment you may have to find your bills for proof of payment to resolve the credit repair issue. If you have any bills in collections it can be helpful to immediately pay them or make payment arrangements.
Next, review your outstanding payments for all debt including credit cards, utilities, collections, home mortgage or other loans. What any good financial advisor will tell you when you want to do credit repair list all your outstanding bills along with monthly minimum payments. You may be able to make arrangements on older outstanding balances and settle the debt for less than you owe. To make these arrangements talk to your
credit card company directly. Make a budget plan to pay off the monthly payments of all your credit balances. Once your bills are being paid on time you'll soon find that your credit repair has begun to work.
